my parents suck! lol

Post by Vinny »

My parents had been looking to get their concealed carry permits for some time, but weren't too hurried since they both carry a lot anyway without a permit (they are respectable adults with no records, they arent really gonna get in trouble if they were caught). Well they looked into signing up for classes, and they found out that their employer (General Motors) will cover about 75% of the cost! So my Dad sold his western style .44 mag, and is going right now to get a compact Colt 1911-style .45, a holster for it, and a holster for my Mom's alloy frame snub-nose .38.

Hopefully in the next year my brother and I will both go through and get our permits. My parents said that if we pay for the classes they will throw each of us a couple hundred $$ toward pistols.

Anyone on here got a carry permit, or into firearms in general?

I've been looking!
Damn cool about the savings, I wonder if my company has anything like that. :)
My friend has a pistol but no carry permit yet. I'm semi interested.

mwahahahahahaha... i like guns...

once we move, i will be getting my CC. there are a bunch of signs up over here about some CC classes. they say "NO WAIT" on them real big. ill probably look into that. right now, if i have a "dangerous mission" i still carry, 9mm Star Ultrastar. its nice and light, single stack so its slim, holds 9 rounds, polymer frame... i can put all 9 rounds into a 3in circle at 20 yards. im going to pick up a 16 gauge pump for home defense, because i want something the wife will be comfortable shooting, i dont think she will like shooting a 12ga.

the 1911 style pistol is a great choice for CC, its a good manstopper, and is stone simple, easy to shoot. i had a Springfield Armory Champion (medium length slide), and i would not hesitate to reccomend S.A. to anyone. IMO, they beat Colt, etc. hands down. if money is no object, i would probably go with a Kimber custom job with a good slide "melting" (smoothing of all the rough/sharp edges). i only carry the 9mm because i already own it, and i know the pistol pretty well so i dont really worry about being able to score a stopping hit.

one last thing: tell your dad to load the .45 with 230 grain Federal Hydra-Shok. i found the 165 grains travel too fast, they dont stay in the "target" long enough to properly expand and do the most damage. i also found that they print high, whereas the 230s were pretty much dead on in both my 4in barreled champion and a buddies 2.75in barreled Star Firestar M45. a hit in center mass with a 230 grain .45 is like getting a hit by a small car.

I'm pleasantly suprised GM is remotely involved with firearms in any way/shape/form (maybe the common sense light at the end of the tunnel is being turned back on). Maybe the shootings at the DCX Toledo Jeep plant has something to do with their policy.

I've carried since 2000. My personal fave is the Springfield Armory Tactical .45 with 230 grain Federal Hydro-Shoks and Galco small-of-back leather.

Carrying does not make me feel safe and it should not make anyone feel safe. It just levels the playing field.

P.S. Contrary to what the liberal elite says, we as citizens ARE our first line of defense. We could put cops on every street corner and guess what we'd have.....Communist Russia or Nazi Germany.
