k well i wanna post my mph to shifts on here and see if it sounds right... you'll see what i mean...

1st - 0-23
2nd - 23-40
3rd - 40-70
4th -70-90
5th - 90-120(max.)

the reason i'm doing this is because i'm one of the many unlucky neon owners who have a stick but no tachometer...

this is a 96 (1st gen)
2.0L SOHC

I think you can go a little higher than that. With 3.55 gears you should be able to get close to 90 in 3rd gear. My DOHC with (lower) 3.94 gears can top out at 92 mph in 3rd gear. In theory your taller gears should let you go even faster in third.

If you have an owners manual i know it has a guide in there for where to shift for cars with no tach. they have listings for both economy and "performance" which if I remember right the performance shift points were pretty aggressive.

1st gear: 0~33
2nd gear: 33- 62
3rd gear: 62-90 or so, i rarely go that fast so im not sure, but my highest trap speed at the track was 86mph, and i dont go past 3rd gear in the 1/4...

you should definetly be hitting 60 in 2nd.

Here's what you do: Find a stretch of road you can get some speed on. Launch it and hold it until the rev limiter hits, but let off and shift as soon as it does (when the rev limiter hits it will feel like you hit a brick wall or something). Then after you shift to second do it again, and third if you have enough room and are brave enough. Remember when that rev limter hits, and shift as close as you can to it without hitting it.

Rev limit

Post by Epitaphrox »

Well one day i thought i was driving my girl's civic i hit the rev limiter in 2nd at 60 mph... i checked my owners manual and it didnt have that performance grid but i've already seen the shift mph's it has and they suck... but yeah i've gone 70+ in 3rd and the straightaway's i push it at happen all the time i just don't like hitting the rev. limiter... and that doesn't make me a wuss i just don't wanna replace my tranny or have the beast overheat.... thanx for replying guys!

i'm getting my cat hollowed out 2morrow cuz its clogged... and thats the reason my hp has been so shitty...not to mention loud and horrible sounding!

Thanx again!
