So my good old buddy Shane who I haven't seen in like 7 years came into town to hang out this weekend. For his job he travels all over the country basically living out of his company car and hotel rooms.

Here's the Neon related part:

His company car is a '04 Neon, he got it brand new and it now has almost 98k miles on it! It was so sad though, this car is only a year old and almost done for. The tranny is all fucked up, CEL, has had problems ever since a botched water pump job... I mean to ride in it you would think it was 10 years old not 1.

I don't know, I know it's a random story but I figured I would share.

the 2nd gens seem like they age faster than normal if they arent "Babied" (see J.Day's R/T), at least to me... my car is 3.5 years (built july of 01) old and has 22000 miles on it. the motor and tranny are fine, as isall the running gear, but the paint looks like its going on 10 years old, and the carpet looks like i pulled it out of a 79 Dodge truck... now, some of this is my fault, but for the first two years i owned it i kept it SPOTLESS. just since my son was born i havent been able to spare the time to clean/wash her as much.

really, though, i dont care. im comfortable with used and abused when it comes to automobiles. shiny clean cars make me nervous...

Yeah I feel ya, my '97 only has 72k on it. He's had the car to something like 35 states though, few trips from Florida to Los Angeles and stuff like that.

Jesus... I'm just a tad over 48K now and running perfectly smooth... but I take care of my car and usually fix things before they break... but so far I haven't had anything that was going to break that I had to replace, mainly just upgrade parts.

But damn... 98K
